Teaming up with Cheshire Fire Service
Consultant Anaesthetist Stephan Clements has added blue light driving to his skills thanks to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service driving instructors.
To make sure Stephan, and other NWEDS doctors, reach incidents quickly, the charity booked sessions with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) to provide blue light training. Doctors attend a one week course at the Service's headquarters in Winsford, Cheshire, where they are taught enhanced driving skills and, if passed, are certificated to drive under blue lights.
Stephan said: "The training I had at Cheshire was fantastic. My trainers, Pete Lyons and Eddie Edwards, were not only welcoming but, being former operational firefighters, experts in their field. On behalf of the people we serve in North Wales I am grateful for their assistance and hope more NWEDS doctors will take advantage of the training."
Pete added: "Stephan was an excellent pupil and we had a really good week. He took on board everything we discussed and is now driving on blue lights and is an enhanced driver as the course is accredited under the Institute of Advanced Motorists emergency response driver scheme."
